Family of Clive Williams reportedly receiving death threats after Kartel verdict
The family of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, the man that Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel and three other men are convicted of killing in 2011, are facingfollowing last week’s ruling, with a contract killing reportedly placed on their heads.
Reports are that the family had to be placed in protective custody a day after the guilty verdict was rendered to Kartel and the co-accused. This coming weeks after Williams’ sister, Stephanie Brackenridge and his girlfriend, Onika Jackson testified during Kartel’s trial.
Subsequent reports on Monday say police have a man in custody for allegedly attempting to carry out a hit on the family and that law enforcement officials are still investigating.
“They have been getting several death threats from unknown persons and we are taking the matter very serious,” one police source told Urban Islandz on Monday. “We brought one suspect in for questioning and we are following more leads.”
Brackenridge was initially vocal following the conviction, giving an emotional interview to Emily Crooks on Nationwide Radio Friday morning, saying, “It’s in some way, a victory for the family and Jamaica, and in other ways, it’s a loss in some ways because this case has opened our eyes to the level of corruption that we didn’t know exists….It’s a victory for morality. It was a fight between money and morality and we [the family] are happy that morality was.”
However, Brackenridge has been more tight-lipped since as she has been advised to limit interviews for the sake of her family’s safety.
Though the attention has mainly been on Kartel throughout the trial, little has been said of Williams, a former dancer who was described by family as a helpful, kind, law-abiding citizen who was promised money and fame by Kartel and his crew. The reaction by some of Vybz Kartel’s ardent supporters regarding Williams has been extremely dismissive, with one supporter telling CVM News that Kartel should not even serve time given that Williams was not famous.
Vybz Kartel will face sentencing for his murder conviction on March 27.
